There is nothing quite like a live performance from the legendary Thandiswa Mazwai. This powerful and dynamic artist will share an evening to be remembered as the finale of the 2019 Bassline Live season.
Saturday November 30th 2019 guests will be in for an evening of magic, as Thandiswa herself explains, “What I love most about performing live is how unpredictable it is and just how much a great audience can heighten the experience of the music. Improvisation is an important part of live performance because it speaks to sounds being created here and now. With the right musicians on stage, live performance can be transcendental. In the words of rapper Homeboy Sandman, and I paraphrase, ‘I never do the same show twice, I am way too nice.’ The people can expect more of that. I am always trying to find new ways to look at the music and it’s performance.”
She goes on to say, “I’m really excited to be back at the Lyric theatre with my Bassline family, we look forward to creating sacred spaces, and allowing music to do its divine work.”
This show promises to be a sold out show and a fitting end to this star-studded 2019 season for the Bassline Live series. Meshalin Naidoo, Promotions and Events Manager of The Lyric Theatre puts it this way, “The Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City is super proud to have been part of the amazing and successful Star-Studded Bassline Live Series for 2019. We look forward to partnering with Bassline for 2020!”
Thandiswa’s performance comes after months of international touring, as she explains “The last few months have been packed with travel as I try to build bridges to other lands. We played AFROPUNK in Brooklyn after headlining it twice in Jozi. Then we went back to NYC for the Carnegie Hall Citywide Festival. We played the Schomburg centre for research in black culture and it was really amazing to see the iconic pictures of African-American creatives strewn everywhere. We also just got back from playing the Redbull Music Festival in Melbourne and are right now getting ready for Summer festivals all over the Mamaland.”
The show starts 8pm at The Lyric Theatre at Gold Reef City on Saturday November 30th. Tickets are available from Computicket starting at R250.
Once again, supporting this event is stylish urban outfitters Brentwood Clothing who continue to stand behind the rich arts and culture scene in South Africa. Bassline Live is also presented in association with Castle Lite to unlock Extra Cold Refreshment and Experience.
